The Outlaw III
Matthew Ryan Fischer
I will not add to their ranks, Ariadne thought. Over and over, she
repeated it like a mantra. Perhaps the one thing that kept her going. The dead
were all around. She would not add to their ranks. Selena would only slow her
down. But she would not add to their ranks. The lords and ladies, and Brother
Janus too, all were in pursuit.
Karla and Delania worked in the kitchen and were chased by a demonically
possessed cook. Ariadne paused to send a shot through the cook’s skull. She
would not add to their ranks. Not tonight. Not these women.
“Stay close and follow me!”
When did I become the hero, she wondered. These women have never had
to fight or flee or battle for their own life before. They would only slow me
down, she thought, but I can not leave them… They would all die. And if they
die…
Ariadne didn’t finish the thought. She already knew. She could not
let any of these women fall, for to fall meant they would raise back up as
something sinister. The dead were already mighty and the night was long, and
she would not add to their ranks.
