Fathers and
Sons

Jacob wasn't surprised to see his half-brother,
but he hadn't expected to see the shotgun.
"Did he send you?"
"Of course."
"To find me or kill me?"
"First off, I'm insulted. You'd be dead
if that was my job. Second, you think dad would make me do that to you?"
"Seems exactly like the sort of thing
he'd do...what's with the new tattoo? 22? That mean something?"
"He has me working on something. Some old
gang that he wants to take the blame for something. You ready to go?"
"What's he need with me anyway?"
"You think he tells me his plans?"
Three months later Jacob had all the men he
could lead and all the resources to ready them for war. His father wanted a
conflict he could use as an excuse to grab power. All Jacob was supposed to do
was hit some low-level operations run by other bosses and steal some money from
some foreigners who had been spreading counterfeits around. Easy stuff. Jacob
could have won his father's praise and secured a spot in whatever grand scheme
Gideon was working on.
But Jacob didn't care about his father's
secret agendas. And he certainly didn't like that his half-brothers knew more
about it than he did.
Equipped with soldiers and funds, Jacob set
out to make contacts of his own. Jacob and Arch had been building their own
little empire and they were about ready to challenge for their place in the
city.
66 hit harder than expected. But Jacob wasn't
worried. He had an angel to rescue him. Seven had no idea what Jacob was
doing here, but he would stop 66 all the same, knowing Jacob was Gideon's son.
All Jacob had to do now was be brought to his
father to explain why he was here. And while everyone was busy with 22, Jacob
could do whatever he wanted.
