La Grandia Part 12
Matthew Ryan Fischer
66 watched as the man with the “22” tattoo killed with efficacy. Bodies and men were pushing and shoving and blood was in the air. What was to be a meeting of the minds had devolved into blood sport. 47 was somewhere in the crowd but 66 lost track of him. Their job was to protect Gideon and get him out of the hotel, but neither seemed to care too much about that right now. 66 wanted a face-to-face with the man with the tattoo and find out who he was, why he was wearing it and what happened to the man who was supposed to be. But until the opportunity arose, 66 would have to let him be. If the battle shifted or bodies went a different direction, perhaps he could find a way to create a private opportunity.
66 saw a man with a hammer smashing faces in, so he decided to take
away his weapon. He was almost rewarded with a knife in the gut, but 66 had
faced far better fighters. The man turned out to be mostly a boy, and 66
delivered a blow to his throat that he thought would incapacitate him.
He turned his attentions to finding 47 and freeing them from the situation.
But there were bodies everywhere and he found himself trapped in the middle of
the mob. Men were too close and were barely able to land blows or wage
effective attacks. One man bit another man’s nose. 66 was able to raise an
elbow and make someone sorry. He wasn’t sure if he was attacking his own men or
not. Someone tried to put a thumb in his eye and ended up getting the tip of his
thumb bitten off.
66 saw Gideon get swallowed up by the crowd and his face
disappeared. Maybe he hit the ground. If so, he would be trampled. 66 thought
he recognized the other men that were trying to find Gideon. 66 tried to push in
that direction.
Someone grabbed his arm. 66 recognized the police officer.
